As Gossip Cop has reported, the new reboot of the comic book film franchise stars Tom Holland as everyone’s favorite web slinger. Despite speculation, it’s less clear who Zendaya is playing, aside from one of Peter Parker’s classmates. On “Good Morning America,” David Muir said, “Lots of questions about whether or not you’re really the famous Mary Jane Watson.”

“It’s always the question of my life right now,” Zendaya replied. “I keep trying to tell everybody my name is Michelle in the movie. That is what my name is. I am not lying to you. I swear.” The actress went on, “She’s a very interesting character, very different from anything we’ve ever seen before, and she’s very intellectual, very smart, which I think leads her to not really be able to socially interact with anybody her own age. So she’s a bit of a loner, but I think she likes it that way.”

Zendaya added, “I like her outspokenness and her wittiness and quickness. But I’m definitely Michelle. I’m not lying. See the movie.” The “K.C. Undercover” star was able to be a lot more forthcoming about the audition process, which she said was “actually really cool.” “It was an initial audition tape, and then I had a chemistry read with Tom. It went really cool, and our director [Jon Watts] is like so chill and so relaxed that it took some of the pressure off,” she recalled.

“It’s a nerve-wracking experience, especially for me,” the former “Dancing with the Stars” contestant admitted. “It was my first big movie and I wanted it so bad. I was definitely nervous. People think I don’t get nervous but I was extremely nervous. It was nice to have Tom, who was super nice and super chill, as well as the director.” In a fateful coincidence, Zendaya revealed her very first date was to see the last big-screen adaptation of Spider-Man when she was 16, and she was “obsessed with it immediately.”

The former child star also discussed her next movie, The Greatest Showman, which stars Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron. Zendaya previously appeared on “GMA” last December to promote her clothing line, as Gossip Cop reported at the time. Spider-Man swings into theaters on July 7. Check out the video above!
